Hubert L. Conner

Hubert L. Conner, a resident of Troy, passed away Thursday, March 17 at his home.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 21, 11:00 a.m. at the Collegedale Church of Christ building with Minister Bobby Templin and Minister Robert Shelton officiating. Mr. Conner will lie in state for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery with Dillard Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be Sunday, March 20 from 5:00-7:00pm at Collegedale Church of Christ.

Hubert was an educator who taught math in Houston, TX; Troy, AL and Ozark, AL, before joining the staff of the Troy State University Library in 1972. While working at the Library, he taught as an adjunct instructor in the Math Department at Troy State University for 19 years.

He was a charter member of Collegedale Church of Christ and served the congregation as an elder for 35 years. He was also a charter member of the Collegedale Christian School Board and served on the board for 30 years. He was instrumental in organizing and building the Christian Student Center for University students to have a Christian environment in which to grow spiritually while in college.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Harold Conner and Ida Mae Fields Conner; two sisters, Ruby Conner Crabtree and Elizabeth Conner Adams; seven brothers, William (Bill) Conner, Harold Conner, Robert L. Conner, Donald Conner, Oscar Conner, John Conner and Richard Conner.

He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Mary Frances Lee Conner; one daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Glen Davis of Pelham, AL; three sons and daughters-in-law, George and Kris Conner of Montgomery, AL, Lloyd and Melinda Conner of Troy, AL and Robert and Beth Conner of Searcy, AR; six grandchildren, Jacob Conner of Denver, CO, Andrew Conner of Lincoln, NE, Daniel Conner of Montgomery, AL, Hannah Conner of Searcy, AR, Kristie Cervantes of Cabot, AR, and Johnathon Lee of Branson, MO; two great grandchildren, Theresa and Tiffani Cervantes of Cabot, AR; one brother, Charles (Jimmie Lou) Conner and one sister, Lillie Pearl Conner Parno.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews: Jacob Conner, Andrew Conner, Daniel Conner, Johnathon Lee, Larry Conner and Garry Conner. Honorary pall bearers will be elders and deacons of the Collegedale Church of Christ.

In lieu of lowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Troy Christian Student Center, P.O. Box 152, Troy, AL 36081.

The family wishes to express their appreciation and thanks for all of the love, care, concern, compassion and support they have received from friends, neighbors and the Hospice Advantage staff during Hubert’s illness.
