Commissioner Homer Wright announces his candidacy for re-election to County Commission District 1. Wright has served as commissioner since November 2004 and chairman of the commission since 2010.

“I am very proud of the commission’s numerous accomplishments since I have served District 1,” Wright said.

Some of those accomplishments include increasing fund balances for the county of a deficit of more than $1.2 million to a positive balance in recent years, creating a 10-year financial plan to manage the county’s debt and spending which will reduce the county’s overall debt by 60 percent creating a sales tax to help education and continue the growth of county funds, working with other elected local county and state officials to better Pike County, being part of the state’s ATRIP program which has brought in more than $12 million to use for county roadwork and working with judges to update and improve the county courthouse.

Wright said his biggest accomplishment was bringing a new lodging tax to Pike County.

“This tax will not financially affect the people of Pike County,” Wright said. “It will serve as a rainy day fund for unexpected expenses and fund improvements for local roads which have no other ear-marked funding available.”

Wright is married to Lucille Berry Wright and has three children and four grandchildren. He is a member of Dunn’s Chapel AME Church in Pike County, the Mason Myrtle Lodge No. 162 and is a retired 1st Sergeant of the United States Army Reserve.

“I would like to ask for your support in my commitment to continue to serve the people of Pike County Commission District 1,” Wright said. “I hope to continue my work to improve Pike County.”
