Getting an updated boat decal just got a little bit easier, according to Probate Judge Wes Allen.

Allen said, in a press release, that he is pleased to announce the introduction of a mail-in boat decal renewal program.

Much like the mail-in car tag renewal initiative offered to Pike Countians, the mail-in boat decal renewal program will not charge extra fees to renew the decals by mail.

Allen said the new mail-in boat decal renewal program will not change the month in which citizens normally renew their boat decals, but citizens will renew their boat decals during the same month they also renew their car tags.

“If a Pike County resident owns a boat that was registered last year, they can look for the courtesy boat decal renewal postcards in their mailbox during the first week of their renewal month,” Allen said. “We are excited because this initiative gives the taxpayer an option as to how they conduct business with their probate office. With high gas prices and so many demands on our time, we believe this program will save residents time and money.”

Allen said the objective of the new boat decal renewal program was to make it more convenient for taxpayers who were hard-pressed for time.

Allen said he urges county residents to read the renewal postcard carefully, make sure the information on the courtesy postcard is correct, sign the card and return the courtesy renewal postcard with payment to the probate office by the end of the renewal month.

“We are having a good response by citizens who are renewing their car tags by mail, and we hope the people of Pike County will also renew their boat decals by mail,” Allen said. “We work hard everyday to ensure the taxpayers of Pike County are getting their monies worth out of their government. Our mission is to conduct business in a timely and thoughtful manner, while being fair and accessible. We feel this initiative builds on that mission.”
