School is just around the corner, but summer isn’t over just yet. But in preparation for the new school year, we must not forget about the third annual Annie L. McNabb School Giveback.
As the event grows each year, more young students are impacted by its generosity. The event provides free school supplies to students in kindergarten through fifth grade.
Families are invited to gather at Murphree Park this Saturday from noon to 1 p.m. for food, fun and free school supplies.
The McNabb family hosts this event in honor of their mother, Annie, who loved this community and always did her best to serve. She was very involved in church activities involving the youth.
The siblings hosting the event wanted to follow in their mother’s footsteps and give back to the community with this annual picnic event.
Picnic foods such as hotdogs and popcorn will be served, and the children will be able to play at the park, meet new friends and get excited about the new school year. Maybe they will even meet some new friends.
The McNabb family also benefits from this event, as they see these events as part of the healing process from the difficult loss of their mother.
School supplies expenses can add up quickly, especially in a household with multiple children, so an event that provides free school supplies is an outstanding effort to give back to the community and a blessing to dozens of families.
Troy is a community that is full of people willing to serve. People are always trying to give back and help others. At the close of the summer, let’s all find at least one more “good deed” to act upon before a new school year begins. And, who knows, maybe that mentality will carry on through the school year, and we will just continue a cycle of giving.
There are may ways to serve in the community, such as giving blood, volunteering with the Red Cross, spending time at the Christian Love Center, or just taking the trash can to the road for your next door neighbor. The list goes on and on, and we can all give back in some way.
The McNabb family is a great example of the spirit of Troy, and the growth of the event shows the returned support of the community. Let’s follow their example and strive to give back to our community.
