Lee, Patel enjoy breezy Monday on The Square

Tucked away in the shade on The Square, Lindsay Lee and Krishna Patel enjoyed a beautiful day in Troy and some ice cream from Byrds.

Lee, a rising senior at Charles Henderson High School, said she was trying to make the most of her summer before senior year started and enjoy the breezy day that Monday brought sitting in a swing on The Square.

“I love being able to spend the good days outside mostly instead of being cooped up inside,” Lee said. “It’s great having somewhere like The Square to come out and sit. I like all the different restaurants and shopping areas. It’s all put together nicely and it feels very southern and homey.”

Patel, who graduated from CHHS and will be going to Auburn in the fall to major in general engineering, said she was trying to make the most out of her time left here in Troy before leaving for the plains.

“I’m probably going to miss the small town homey feel of Troy the most,” Patel said. “Auburn is a lot bigger and more college based. Troy is smaller and more city based than Auburn. The nice day brought me out here. I try to enjoy the nicer days as much as I can because I just enjoy being outdoors.”

Both girls are originally from Troy, and the two said they would often go to The Square or several other places around the city to enjoy pretty days and read a book.

“Most of the time I go to the walking trail at the Rec Center,” Patel said. “It’s really pretty out there. I’ll go out in the woods and read a book. Sometimes I’ll go to the lagoon on Troy’s campus and relax.”

Lee said her sorority would often make use of the shaded space on The Sqaure.

“I’m in a sorority, 21 Club, and we’ve had a lot of meetings out here on The Square,” Lee said. “I would describe it as a second home to me. This was my second time this week, so I come out here quite a lot actually.”

While Patel will be going to Auburn in the fall, she said she still had hopes and dreams for The Square while she’s gone.

“I hope they’re able to include music and everything downtown and have smaller outdoor concerts,” Patel said. “I hope they’ll be able to give it some publicity for the town. I think that would be really good.”

Lee echoed Patel’s sentiments saying she hoped for similar things with The Square.

“I hope there are a lot more things focused around music down here,” Lee said. “Just to get everybody out and on The Square. A lot of people don’t realize how great The Square is. I hope there is a lot more publicity toward The Square in the future.”
