The CHHS boys and girls soccer team traveled to Dothan Thursday and head coach Rick Braisted said the teams were able to come back proud of what their games.

The boys soccer team beat Dothan 3-1, and Braisted said it was one of the best outings the team had, had all year.

“Perry Bunn played the best game I’ve ever seen him play in three years, which I thought made a difference,” Braisted said. “Reilly Williamson also had an outstanding game. Jaron Knox scored the first goal. Then, ben Sammons scored the other two. He scored one on a break away and one off of a corner kick. He headed it into the upper ninety.”

From the last game to Thursday’s game, Braisted said he was able to see a difference in the way the team was playing.

“We didn’t play well the other night,” Braisted said. “I told the guys I wanted to learn what the difference was between our last game and tonight. They said the difference tonight was they really trusted each other. They played at a team and all 11 players worked together and played as a team.”

As for the girls’ team, Briasted said he was proud of the outing the team had Thursday with a 1-1 tie against Dothan.

“We’ve had all loses all season, so this is the first game that ended as a tie,” Braisted said. “We set milestones for ourselves this year and No. One to try and be competitive try to not get mercy rules, and tie would be on there. Next would be trying to win a game. They played really well.”

Braisted said the team had one minor breakdown after Dothan managed to score tying the game up.

“We had a little breakdown where they scored and tied up the game,” Braisted said. “They got the ball down to the endline and kicked it in to the box and someone just poked it in. They kind of got it from the six yard line. They got a pretty good kick on it.”

Kaylin Riley scored the goal for the Trojans, and Braisted said she had kept on dribbling after attempting to score a goal from 10 yards out.

“She actually just jet on dribbling and poked it on through,” Braisted said. “She got it to the six yard box and kicked it in. She just followed it up.”

Braisted said the team had been preaching following through with their shots, which was something that was good to see for the team.

“The rest of the team played well as a team,” Braisted said. “Every day we’re getting better. We’re trying to get ready for the final stretch of the season. We’re still looking to get better. Everyone is excited for upcoming games because everyone is looking to continue getting better.”
