PLAS Lady Pats cruise past Monroe in area game

If you asked head coach Allie Park how she felt her team was doing this year, she would probably tell you the sky was their limit.

The PLAS softball team cruised past Monroe Academy Tuesday in a 5-1 win over the Volunteers.

Park said the team had been able to get an early lead on the Vols thanks to the bottom of the lineup stepping up and making big plays in the batter’s box.

“In the first and second inning, we had a lot of hits,” Park said. “Bailey was on base every time she got up to the plate. AB went two for four at the plate, and Jacy Oakes had a big triple in the second inning and Elaina Strother and Mya Terry hit well.”

Park said the team had left several runners stranded on the bag during the contest Tuesday, but said overall the team had played well.

“We left a lot of base runners on, which we’ll have to work harder at getting them in, but defense played solid and we were able to score some big hits and capitalize on the other team’s mistakes in the field,” Park said.

PLAS will host Macon East Thursday, and Park said she’s just as eager to face the Knights for a second time this season.

“I’m really hoping for another really good ball game,” Park said. “They’re tough, but we beat them once so I think we can beat them again. We are playing good ball right now. Being at home is going to be an advantage of us hopefully they’ll pull out another win.”

The JV Lady Pats will take the field at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, and Park said the varsity girls would follow after.

“Each game we play is just bringing us closer to state,” Park said.
