Their season may have ended short of a coveted conference championship, but that doesn’t mean there is nothing to look forward to for Troy women’s basketball fans who are now carrying the sudden void left after the Trojans’ early exit in New Orleans on Wednesday.

For starters, there may yet be more basketball to play this season for the Trojans.

The university announced after its loss that the WNIT and WBI postseason tournaments might be interested in Troy.

With any luck, the Trojans will be scheduled for postseason play by this time next week.

But that’s just scratching the surface.

Even if the Trojans aren’t selected to any postseason tournaments, there is still plenty to look forward to next season.

Troy will lose four key seniors this offseason, but will have even more talent returning in 2015-16.

Ashley Beverly-Kelley, the team’s leading scorer this season and recipient of just about every conference award possible, will return for her senior year.

The junior served as the leader for the Trojans’ offense this season and will be a massive piece returning to Troy’s lineup next year.

As Beverly-Kelley goes, the Troy offense goes. With another year of experience under her belt, she should be expected to pick up right where she left off in 2015.

But as we’ve learned so many times this season, Beverly-Kelley is not the only Troy player who can step up and make a difference with the game on the line.

Lacey Buchanon, Rachel Reid, Kristen Emerson and Caitlyn Ramirez will all return for the Trojans next year as well.

Look at any game from 2015 and you’ll see one of the above players coming up big in key moments of the game for Troy.

Emerson and Ramirez were defensive specialists in 2015, Emerson being a shot blocking machine and Ramirez rebounding anything she could get her hands on.

And Reid and Buchanon were offensive spark plugs for Troy, providing key baskets when games were in the balance.

And when all four of those key players return next season a year older and a year wiser, Chanda Rigby will have an armory of players to go to when she needs them.

So you thought this year was special for Troy women’s basketball? Come next year, we all might be singing the same tune.
