The Shelia Jackson and Company Holiday Concert is one of the Troy Arts Council’s most attended and highly anticipated events on its annual season calendar.

The concert will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12 at the Claudia Crosby Theater and already tickets are being punched.

Ruth Walker, TAC president, said if history repeats itself, then Shelia Jackson and her friends will “pack the place” once again.

“Shelia Jackson and Company is the TAC’s traditional holiday concert and the Crosby Theater is always packed,” Walker said. “Shelia has a large and extended ‘family’ of musicians and vocalists and she knows how to put together a good show. People know it’s going to be a great concert and they want to be a part of it.”

Walker said Jackson’s concerts get better and better each year.

“The holiday concert is not something Shelia puts together overnight,” Walker said. “She works on the concert all year long, planning and putting together a show that will equal or better the big city concerts.”

Walker said Jackson has an incredible voice and her “friends” are all extremely talented, too.

“When you put them all together, you’ll got a fantastic holiday concert,” she said.

As always, Jackson is mum on the exact details of the concert.

“I don’t want to give anything away,” Jackson said, with a smile. “But, it will be a high-energy, family concert and we’ll be singing a lot of the familiar standards and we will have something brand new, too.”

Tonya Terry, WSFA news anchor, will emcee the concert and add interest and insight to the show with her commentary.

The first half of the concert will be a variety type show featuring Broadway, jazz, R&B, pop and classical music.

The holiday concert band will be made of some of the best musicians in the area including Henry Everette, Mike Tyner, David Everette, Patrick Jackson, Jason Flowers, La’Roy Bodiford, Johnny Brewer, Martin Sager, Chris Helms, Nick McDonald and Breanna Guice. Theo Smith will be featured on drums and Henry Terry on piano.

Vocalists will be Christine Barron, Dorsey Fayson, Adrienne Barron, Carnell Barron, Marge Simmons and Marvin Pearson.

The Troy University dancers will also be featured.

The second half of the concert will be entirety Christmas music and songs and will feature a children’s choir.

“We’ll bring together local ministers for one of the Christmas songs,” Jackson said. “We are proud to have pastors, Sam Green, Larry Bland, Earnest Green, Calvin Griffin and James Oliver as part of the concert.

“We’ll end the Holiday Concert in a very memorable way. Hopefully, the concert will be an entertaining and meaningful way to countdown to Christmas.”
