Furry friends looking for a home will be available for adoption Saturday.

The Troy Animal Rescue Project (TARP) is hosting an adoption event today in downtown Troy on the Square.

Co-organizer Tiffany Howington encouraged the public to come adopt. Those that aren’t looking to adopt are still invited to interact with the dogs.

“We have an adoption event once a month,” Howington said. “It’s a chance for the dogs to interact with other dogs and get attention they wouldn’t normally.”

The adoption event will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Milky Moo’s will be donating 50 percent of their ice cream sales during those hours to TARP. Howington said support from businesses and community members helps tremendously.

“Community and business support makes a lot of difference,” Howington said. “Our veterinarian bills run from $4,000 to $6,000 a month because every animal is vaccinated, spayed, neutered and treated for any medical problems before being adopted.”

Between 30 to 50 animals including dogs and cats will be available for adoption. There is a $50 fee for adoption, which goes toward funding the project.

“Adopted pets give unconditional love, because they know that you saved them,” Howington said. “They are the most loyal, loving dogs.”
