Scott Strohmeyer was one of the first men to tee off Wednesday morning, and was the final man to walk off the 18th green Friday afternoon.

Strohmeyer bagged his first win of the 2014 Emerald Pro Golf Tour season with a four stroke win in the Drex Guthrie Classic at the Troy Country Club. Strohmeyer fired a seven-under-par 65 in the final round, backing up his first two scores of 65 and 64.

Known as a heavy ball striker, Strohmeyer feels the course at the TCC played in to his strengths this week.

“Sometimes short courses don’t give me an advantage because I have to lay back,” Strohmeyer said. “But this week, I was really able to use my advantage, which I my length. I was able to get close to those greens, and I felt like I could make a ton of birdies.”

Strohmeyer’s low final round held off a hard charging Glenn Northcutt. Northcutt, the leading money win on tour, closed the tournament with a final round 64, but was forced to settle for second.

The win for Strohmeyer is his first of the 2014 summer season, and comes on the heels of three poor performances.

Strohmeyer, who won a national title at Alabama in 2013, had missed the cut in the last three tournaments he played, but feels he is finding his old swing with the help of an old friend.

“I brought my caddy with me this week, and that really helped,” Strohmeyer said, “He really helped me see the line and believe in myself more. I put in some extra work, and I really fell that was what helped have the confidence to win it.”
