Mr. Charles P. Butler, Jr., passed away peacefully on July 14, 2014. Funeral services are scheduled for 12 Noon Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Stonewall Presbyterian Church near Ethel, MS with interment in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 10 AM – 12 Noon at the church. There will also be a memorial service held Sunday, July 20, 2014 at Brundidge United Methodist Church in Brundidge, AL. at 2:00 PM.

Mr. Butler was born in Lexington, TN in 1927 to Charles Paul Butler, Sr. and Amanda Patrice Thompson Butler. He grew up in Kosciusko, MS where he graduated in 1945 and then enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy. He later married Maggie Flint of Ethel, MS in February 1951 and had three children, Paul, Mark and Patrice. The family moved in 1961 to Brundidge, AL where he was active in many church, community and civic organizations. He enjoyed a wonderful career as a New York Life Representative where he met and helped many people. Charlie lived a good life and has always been known for his honesty and integrity, as well as truly enjoying life. He served as Scout Master and was responsible for graduating many Scouts to the rank of Eagle Scout. He himself was awarded the Silver Beaver Award, the highest award in Scouting. As a member of the Brundidge Rotary Club, he was recognized for his many contributions to the club and was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow. Charlie truly lived his life with the Rotary motto: “Service above self, he who profits most, serves best”. Charlie is preceded in death by his wife, Maggie Flint Butler and grandson, William Chessley “Chess” Butler.

Mr. Butler is survived by his children, Paul Butler (Barbara Gene); Mark Butler (Nikki) and Patrice Craig; grandchildren, Amanda, Callen, Shea, Kyrie (Ryan) and Quinn; great grandchildren, Fletcher, Raven, Maggie, and Oliver and sister, Mary Elizabeth Curry (John).

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Chere Peele and the wonderful staff at the V. A. Nursing Facility.
