Covenant Christian School’s honors day and kindergarten graduation was filled Thursday with flowers and achievements.
“Each year the kindergarten students are presented with their diploma then receive a flower from the first-grade teacher,” said kindergarten teacher Janice Waldrop. “It’s a symbolic of the transition they are about to make.”
The events were held in the sanctuary at First Presbyterian Church. The kindergarteners recited nursery rhymes with a Christian twist.
Each student was then presented with a diploma and flower, and later students gave the flowers to their parents while singing “You Are My Sunshine.”
“We always want to thank the parents for all they have done,” Waldrop said. “They play a big part in everything.”
After the kindergarten graduation Covenant Christian held its Honors Day program.
Students in grades kindergarten through third were awarded several certificates and medals in recognition of their grades, AR reading, and overall achievements throughout the school year.
Students in the first grade were also recognized for the overwhelming amount of AR books they read through the year. Each student read at least 300 books with the top students having read more than 500 dung the school year.
The Rev. Michael Alsup of First Presbyterian also presented each teacher with a special gift and a bouquet of flowers to show appreciation for their hard work throughout the year.
