Charles Henderson captured the school’s fourth-ever region title last week with a 50-0 win over Ashford.

But the season is still far from over.

All week long the Trojans’ 2013 slogan, “Unfinished Business,” has echoed off the walls of the locker room, weight room and stadium bleachers.

Charles Henderson head coach Mike Dean said that his players should celebrate what they have accomplished, but not lose sight of the ultimate goal of winning a state title.

“If our goal was to win the region, then we have beaten since the start,” Dean said. “We still have to keep pressing, and getting better. We have the tools and skills to finish this off and make it a very special season, but now is not the time to let up. Now is the time to find your stride, so you are playing the best football come first round of the playoffs.”

This week is homecoming week for Charles Henderson, a week that quite a few football coaches dislike because of the added outside distractions for players.

However, Dean laid out a simple plan for his team for the Week…nothing will change.

“We have to keep them in routine,” Dean said. “Homecoming is not about football. It is for the alumni. It is another Friday for us, and another team we have to work to beat. We have kept the same routine that we have had all year. We have put in 10 months of sacrifice and hard work, what’s six more weeks? We will be ready.

Charles Henderson (8-0) will meet winless Bullock County (0-8) Friday night, the last of a three-game stretch against far inferior teams. While Dean and the Trojans are heavy favorites, they are still not overlooking the Hornets.

“We still have to come out and play our game,” Dean said. “Our biggest opponent every week is Charles Henderson. We must win the game, and get better in the process. If we are making mistakes in week two or three, we can fix it. Mistakes in week 11 or week 12, and they may be no time to fix it. We must get better every day. We must win today.”

Charles Henderson leads the all-time series against Bullock County 14-2-1, including a 61-14 win last year in Union Springs. The Trojans have not lost to the Hornets since 1950.

Kickoff is set for 7 P.m. at Larry Blakeney Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Troy.
