Charles Henderson head coach Mike Dean is a firm believer that the only way for the Trojans to reach the ultimate goal of a state title is to consistently get better every single day.

The Trojans will put that philosophy to work Friday night against Bayside Academy in the season opener for both teams. Charles Henderson routed Pike County last week 47-7, but the Trojans didn’t take time to rest on their accomplishments.

Dean, an admitted “perfectionist,” said that his team must concentrate on itself.

“We must work to get better every day,” Dean said. “You are going to play the way you practice, and we have to keep it up. The film doesn’t lie, and we should them what we needed to fix.”

The Admirals from Daphne were stunned 29-22 last season by the Trojans, and will make the over three-hour trip to Troy looking to return the favor.

The 2012 meeting was the first between the two programs, but with Charles Henderson head coach Mike Dean’s ties to the Eastern Shore area, it will more than likely continue in the future.

Dean grew up in the area, and knows the caliber of athletes Bayside has, and has nothing but respect for the Admirals’ head coach Phil Lazenby.

“Coach Lazenby does a heck of job at Bayside, and has at every place he has been,” Dean said. “He took over a very young Bayside program a few years ago, and has made the playoffs every year. They play in a tough region, with T.R. Miller, and have beaten them some and won region titles. There is no doubt he will have them ready to play on Friday night.”

Dean said that Bayside will run a wing T offense, that can chew up yards and clock in bunches, and 3-3 stack defense. The defensive alignment allows Bayside to blitz multiple linebackers, and keep the offense guessing from snap to snap of who the fourth rusher will be.

Kickoff is set for Friday at 7 p.m. at Larry Blakeney Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Troy.
