William Douglas Beck

William Douglas (Bill) Beck, age 85, of Troy, died Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at Tuscaloosa VA Hospital. Funeral Services will be Friday, August 2, 2013, at 4 p.m. with Rev. Kevin Beck & Rev. Ellis Bush officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Hills Memorial Cemetery with Green Hills Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Beck was the owner of Bill Beck Insurance Agency. He and Marie also owned and operated Marie’s Nursery and Daycare for many years. He was affectionately known by his grandchildren and the many children from their daycare as “Gran Gran”. He was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church and served as a deacon. He served on the Troy Recreation Board for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Deubra and Mary Lee Beck; his wife Marie Mills Beck and brother, Carlton Beck.

He is survived by daughter, Linda Bavaro of Wetumpka, son, Douglas Beck (Deborah) of Northport; son, Larry Meeks (Cecelia) of Troy; Grandchildren, Grant and Robyn Stricklin, Wesley and Marsha Meeks, Chris and Missy Beck, Bethany and Matt Merritt, Jacqueline Meeks, Beck Stricklin, Kevin Beck, Matt King (Shannon); ten great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Grant Stricklin, Beck Stricklin, Chris Beck, Wesley Meeks, Jimmy Law, Roosevelt Coleman and Matt Merritt. Honorary pallbearers will be, Cherie and Raymond Ledford, Donna Horn, Dale Law and Noble Manor Staff and residents of Building three, Jane Rader and former employees of Marie’s Nursery and Tuscaloosa VA Hospice Staff.
