It has been business as usual for the Troy Dixie Ponytail softball tournament team over the past few days at the state tournament.

Troy has rolled through its competition in Underwood en route to a perfect 4-0 mark, as of press time on Tuesday. In four games at the tournament Troy has out-scored its opponents by a combined score of 47-11.

The team opened the tournament on Saturday with a 12-5 victory over Opelika, and backed it up Sunday with a 20-3 rout of Colbert Heights.

“We have played pretty well so far,” said Troy head coach Larry Rushing. “The girls have come out and hit the ball extremely well, and we have played good defense behind our pitchers.”

Troy continued their winning ways on Monday, notching two wins. In the first game of the day, Troy bested rival Geneva 7-0. The two teams have played no less than five games against one another since the beginning of tournament play, and have traded wins and losses numerous times.

In the nightcap, Troy knocked off the host-team, Underwood, 8-3.

Troy trailed early, but mounted a late rally to claim the win in come-back fashion.

“Things have gone well for us,” Rushing said. “We need to keep this momentum going a little longer.”

As of press time Tuesday night, Troy was playing Montgomery Gray, with the winner automatically advancing to the title series on Wednesday.
