It’s the biggest game of the year so far for Troy. The Trojans enter the game 5-2 overall and 2-1 in Sun Belt action. A win could put Troy in the mix for a Sun Belt title. The Hilltoppers are coming off a tough three-game stretch against Navy, ULM and ULL. Western Kentucky walked away 1-2 in those games but is still a ultra-competitive team.

Bobby Petrino has given an already solid program a boost in confidence but the lack of depth on offense is starting to show.

This game starts out a chess match with WKU and Troy trading decent drives that ultimately stall. Michael Lindsey has a nice carry late in the first quarter to get the Trojans in field goal range but a penalty pushes them back and force a punt.

Western Kentucky scores first on an 8-yard run by Antonio Andrews early in the second quarter.

Troy wouldn’t respond until the final play of the half when Will Scott punches through a 34-yard field goal. WKU takes a 7-3 lead into halftime.

The third quarter is nothing more than a reflection of the first half. Tyler Roberts comes up with a sack to stall one Western Kentucky drive while Shermane TeArt recovers a fumble to thwart another.

As the fourth quarter opens, WKU has the ball deep in Troy territory and eventually scores on a 24-yard reception by Willie McNeal to open the Hilltoppers lead to 14-3.

Troy would return the ensuing kick to the WKU 45. That would lead to another Scott field goal to make it a 14-6 game.

After the Hilltoppers slow things down, Troy eventually gets the ball back and score on an 30-yard pitch and catch from Robinson to Worthy. Troy’s two-point conversion attempts fails leaving the Trojans down by two.

With the Trojans trailing 14-12, Western runs off more time before punting leaving Troy with just enough clock to run off one more drive.

Robinson hits Thomas for a 13-yard pick up then finds Chitty for another 10. A dump off into the flats to Khary Franklin puts Troy in position to win the game.

Scott’s third field goal attempt of the game knuckles wide left allowing the Hilltoppers to escape in a surprisingly low-scoring affair.

Troy falls to 5-3, 2-2 Sun Belt

RESULT: Troy LOSES, 14-12.

STAT OF THE GAME: Corey Robinson 21-for-35, 265 yards, 1 TD
