Every coach tells his players to make solid contact, put the ball in play, and see what happens.

Troy O-Zone Rookies head coach Chad Copeland saw his players knock in hit after hit, and run after run en route to a District Tournament title Wednesday night in Enterprise.

The Rookies knocked off Enterprise National 13-4 in the final game to claim the championship.

“Two things really stand out to me,” Copeland said. “All 12 of our guys contributed in some way. They really played as a team the last few days, and it really helps. It was a total team effort. The other thing is how well we hit the baseball. We got some big hits and it worked out well for us.”

With the win, the O-Zone Rookies advance to the State Tournament in Muscle Shoals July 5-11.

All the rookie division tournaments, AA, AAA and O-Zone will be held in The Shoals.

Copeland said that his team has some things to work on before heading north next week.

“We need to tighten up our defense a little bit,” said Copeland. “It has been good at times, and not so good at times. That will be our focus in practice the next few days. Our offense has been pretty good, and if we sure up the defense I think we have a really good shot at bringing another title home.”
