The Garage Sale to benefit the Miracle League Playground Project on Saturday at the Troy Recreation Center earned more than $700 toward the remaining $80,000 needed to complete the project.

Lisa Holmes, recreation department programs coordinator, said she was extremely pleased with the amount raised and expressed appreciation to all of those who participated and to those who made donations to the project.

“The garage sale went a lot better than we had thought,” Holmes said. “We had hoped to make a couple hundred dollars so, with $720 raised, the garage sale was a great success.”

The sale started at 7 a.m. Saturday but Holmes said shoppers began coming at 6:30 a.m.

“We let them go ahead and shop while we set up,” she said. “We had nine booth spaces rented and a ton of items donated. A lot of people who came said they had things that they could have donated. So, we are considering have another garage sale – a spring cleaning sale – and make it even bigger and maybe have a bake sale and a silent auction along with it.”

The Miracle League Playground will cost around $200,000. Already $120,000 has been raised through grants, contributions and donations.

The playground will be for children of all ages and all abilities. The Miracle Field Playground will be located next to the Recreation Center.

Those who would like to make a donation to the project may do so at the Troy Recreation Department at the Sportsplex. All donations are tax deductible.
