Brandy Grace Pinckard has been voted the cover pet for the Humane Society of Pike County’s 2010 Pet Photo Calendar. Brandy Grace, a regal calico, polled an astounding 1,182 votes that translated into dollars in the humane society’s annual fundraising Pet Photo Contest that ended Aug. 31. Lisa Howard, event chair, said the $1,182 raised by the “family” and friends of Brandy Grace was the most raised by any pet in the contest that celebrated its second year.

“That was a huge amount but the voting was amazing all down the line,” Howard said. “The second place pets received 530 votes and the third place got 520. It was a great contest and we appreciate all of those who entered photos of their pets and those who voted. The money raised will be used to fund our annual spay/neuter and feral cat programs, our education programs in the schools and continue work on our shelter.” Howard said Brandy Grace will be the cover pet and the next 13 runners-up will be the monthly-featured pets. “Our Pet Photo Calendar starts in December and ends in December, so we have 13 monthly winners,” she said.

The top five monthly winners are: Brandy Grace; A Parade of Geese with 530 votes, Dr. Patricia Block, owner; Wilbur, 520 votes, Troy Animal Clinic; Three Amigos – Bo, Buddy and Polly, 451 votes, Mike and Ann Bagley, owners; Daisy, 368 votes, Jessie Carroll, owner. Rounding out the top 13 are: Lily, 360 votes, Jessie Carroll, owner; Sissy, 310 votes, Mary Lou Harris, owner; Sister, 285 votes, Jim and Barbara Starling, owner; Kitty Kat Howard, the 2009 Cover Pet, 240 votes, Freddie and Ann Howard, owners; Roscoe, 239 votes, Caleb Dawson, owner; Nuggets, 215 votes, David Darnell and Lindsay Garner, owners; Molly and Coby, 202 votes, Stella Hughes, owner; and Harley, 190 votes, Bill and Deborah Atwell, owners. “We will also feature weekly winners in small photos on the calendar and every pet that was entered will be included, some on the inside pages and some on the back,” Howard said. “We want all of the pets to be recognized and the owners to be thanked for their participation.” The 2010 Humane Society of Pike County Pet Photo Calendars will be on sale in October.
