The Pike County Fair is coming to town Oct. 16 through the 20, but now is the time to get those entries ready for judging in categories from everything from A to Z.

Homer Homann, president of the sponsoring Troy Shrine Club, said more than $4,000 will be awarded for “everything that anybody does.”

“The Creative Living section of the Pike County Fair offers the opportunity to win ribbons and prize money and the Troy Shrine Club invites everyone to enter. It’s a lot of fun and these exhibits are part of the draw of the county fair.”

No matter what one’s interest, there is a category to enter.

“You can enter your paintings, your produce, your plants or photographs,” Homann said. “You can enter your pigs, your chickens, your cows. You can enter your canned goods, your cakes, your sewing or your woodwork. Just about anything. That’s what makes the county fair unique.”

Entries may be registered between the hours of 1 and 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at the Pike County Fairgrounds. No entries will be accepted after 5 p.m. on Sunday.

“The entries have to be ready for judging on Monday morning, Oct. 15,” Homann said.

“The judges will be busy for several hours trying to make some really hard decisions.”

Homann said the rules and regulations for entries in the Creative Living section of the Pike County Fair are in the 2012 Pike County Fair that was distributed by The Messenger.

“We’ll have an exciting and fun new midway and outstanding entertainment every night,” Homann said.

“If you like the rides, then you’ll want to purchase an armband that lets you ride all the rides as many times as you want.

Armbands will be $18 if purchased at the fairgrounds but you can get them in advance for $10 at the Piggly Wiggly stores in Troy and Brundidge.

That’s an $8 savings, so get your armbands now and save. And plan now to join the fun of the Pike County Fair Oct. 16-20.”

Admission to the fair is $6 for ages 12 and older, $4 for ages six to 11, and children five and under are admitted free.
