In the opening game of the Dixie Ponytails warm up tournament, Troy got off to a good start against Montgomery Gray.

The team in red was able to score four runs in drop deal pool play, to secure its first victory of the day, winning 4-1.

“We played a good ball game,” Terry Moats said.

“Our pitching was excellent from all three of our girls and we played solid defense.

“We still have to work on our hitting though,” he added.

Now, Troy will go on to face another winner from the first round of pool play at 1 p.m.

“We are going to working everyone. We have four pitchers and two catchers and we want to try some people in other positions,” the coach said.

“Overall, I thought it was a good start to the day.”

In the second game of the day for Troy, the end result was one that was not expected at the beginning of the game.

The team faced off against Rehobeth in a battle of winners from the first round, but when the game was over, the two teams still reminded without a loss, as the game ended in a 3-3 tie.

“I thought we played well,” assistant coach Cary Maulden said afterwards. “A tie is better than a loss.”

With the tie, Troy will edge Rehobeth for the No. 1 seed in the single elimination tournament that will take place earlier this afternoon.

Troy struck first as Kayli Adams, Kayla Dendy and Laken Maulden all scored to give Troy a 3-0 lead.

Rehobeth would respond with three of their own runs.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Maulden reached base thanks to a lead-off single, however, would remain stranded after advancing to third base.

“We are hitting the ball well, and our pitching and defense is looking pretty good to,” the coach said.

“Hopefully, we will be able to continue to play this well the rest of the day.”
