In the Dixie Angels League, the Troy team was unable to overcome a two-run deficit against Zion Chapel, as it fell 2-1 in opening round of pool play.

“We played a good ball game,” head coach Larry Sanders said.

“It was drop dead ball and we had a chance to do something with two runners on, but we just ran out of time.”

Zion Chapel scored two runs in the third inning, and while Troy was able to cut the lead in half, it was unable to do anything more.

“I thought we made some good plays in the field,” the coach said. “The girls are a little timid about swinging the bat, but that will change with the more games we play.”

In its second game of the day, Troy was unable to overcome a early deficit.

This time around, Troy faced off against Rehobeth and found themselves down 6-0 after one inning.

Troy would answer back though with four runs in the following half inning.

Ashlan McCloud scored the team’s first run of the game thanks to a bases loaded walk, which was drawn by Daisy Bradly.

Gracie Scarbrough followed with an RBI of her own in the next at-bat, scoring Kassidy Hester.

The big hit of the inning came off the bat of Abby Lee, after she hit a two-RBI double to cut the lead to just two runs.

That would be as close as Troy would get however.

“I thought we played great after the first inning,” Sanders said. “We had one bad inning, and that was the difference in the game.”

Shelby Shivar, Molly Kate Saunders and Hester all stepped into the pitching circle for Troy during the game.

“I was proud to see the girls not give up after the first inning,” the coach said.

“They fought right back and played great the rest of the way.”

Troy will next take the field at 4 p.m. when they will play Enterprise in the first round of the single elimination tournament.
