While Brundidge was able to advance farther than it ever had in the Pre-Minor District Tournament with a win over the weekend, it ran into a roadblock on Monday night.

The team faced off with Eufaula in the third round of the tournament, and like it did against Troy on Saturday, Eufaula had no problem defeating a team from Pike County, as the road team won 26-4 in four innings.

“We weren’t able to do a good job of stopping the ball (Monday night) in the field,” head coach Jimmy Dixon said afterwards. “We made too many errors and unfortunately, our bats didn’t come around until late in the game.”

“But I am proud of how the kids never gave up and fought all the way until the end,” the coach added.

Eufaula scored the inning maximum of runs, which is seven in all four innings but one, when they scored five in the second.

Brundidge did have a late inning rally that was sparked by some timely hitting in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Both Tyler Glover and Amaghie Lampley led the inning off with back-to-back singles, that would lead to both crossing home plate.

Rayshaun Reynolds, Tyree Warren and Tomrorian Pryor all had RBIs in the inning as well.

“You have all shown a great deal of improvement,” assistant coach Alvin Johnson said to his team after the game.

“If we would have hit like we did in the last inning, this would have been a different game, but once you all settled down – we looked good.”

This is the furthest a Pre-Minor Brundidge team has ever been in the District tournament, and Dixon said he believes his kids may have been a little nervous coming into the game.

“Sure they were a little nervous,” the head coach said.

“But I am proud of them, they fought hard and never gave up.”

Now, the Brundidge team will face its Pike County counterpart, Troy, today in Brundidge at 6 p.m.

“We have to forget about this game,” Dixon said about the loss to Eufaula.

“These are all hard working kids though. We just have to take a step back and focus.”
