Parties in the pasture may not be the norm in some parts of the country but, in the South, they are where it’s happening.

“When you’re from the South, there’s nothing better than a Party in the Pasture,” said Lindsey Brown, publicly chair for Southern Traditions, sponsor of the PIP Concert that will kick off Saturday, July 24 in Dublin – Alabama, not Ireland.

Southern Traditions is a non-profit committee that was organized in an effort to generate revenue for education.

“Southern Traditions strives to maximize the ultimate concert experience by providing quality entertainment at an affordable price,” Brown said. “All funds collected at the PIP Concert will go directly to assist with any extra needs at South Montgomery County Academy.”

The funds from the PIP Concert will help replenish funds that were made available through the popular SMCA Haunted Hay Ride.

“For about 20 years, the Haunted Hay Ride brought money into the school but it was discontinued about two years ago,” Brown said.

“The Haunted Hay Ride was sponsored by the school but the PIP Concert is sponsored by Southern Traditions in support of our school and is made up of 12 community members.”

Southern Traditions invites everyone who enjoys country music to “ Git yo PIP on” and be a part of a pasture party like no other.

“If you like county music, the PIP is where you’ll want to be on July 24,” Brown said.

“We’ll have seven of the most popular country music bands in the region on stage — Tony Brooks, Wes Loper, Adam Hood, Chris Posey, JB Roberts, Brandon Self and Trotline. We can promise a good music and a good time.”

The “pasture” is the former site of the Haunted Hayride so parking space is readily available.

“The pasture is a controlled area and it’s also a picturesque area in which to have an outdoor concert,” Brown said. “The concert will get started at 11 a.m. and end at 11 p.m. The bands will play almost non-stop with only 20-minute breaks to change bands.”

Those who attend the PIP will need to bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating.

“Because all of the funds raised will support SMAC, no coolers will be allowed but we’ll have food and beverages on sale at the PIP site,” Brown said.

Brown said the first “P” in PIP can be changed to accommodate other events that are in the planning stages for the concert series.

“If we want to have a bluegrass concert, we might call it ‘Pickin’ in the Pasture,’” she said.

“Because we are Dublin, we’re also considering a concert during the St. Patrick’s Day celebration week. If this first concert is successful, it will be the encouragement that we need to make the PIP a concert series and keep it going in support of education.”
