U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions will make a stop in Troy Wednesday to address members of the Pike County Chamber of Commerce.

Over breakfast, chamber members will have the opportunity to hear an update on events in Washington from Sessions, as well as ask questions of their own.

“We encourage our chamber members to come out so they will have the opportunity to receive a national update from Senator Sessions and ask questions of personal interest,” said Leigh Anne Windham, interim president of the Pike County Chamber of Commerce.

Breakfast will be held from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the Troy Country Club, and chamber members are encouraged to attend for a $10 fee. RSVP by calling the chamber at 566-2294.

“Senator Sessions’ intent is to visit every county in Alabama at least once a year,” said Sarah Haley, spokeswoman for Sessions’ office. “The Senator is looking forward to meeting the folks that are there.”

Among topics Sessions plans to address are the importance of judicial nominations, and he will share his thoughts on the recent confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan, according to a press release from Sessions’ office.

Haley said Sessions will also address key issues of government spending and economic importance.

“He will be discussing the reckless spending we have going on in Washington, the budget deficit and how it will affect small businesses there,” Haley said.

Sessions also may discuss his new Wiregrass office, which will open in Dothan Monday.

The office will serve residents of Houston and nine surrounding counties, including Pike.

“The Senator really likes to be able to hear directly from his constituents, so the office will be an area for staff in the community to come…and residents can share their concerns and ideas,” Haley said. “It’s important for us to connect with what’s going on there. We want to make sure when we’re in Washington we know how those bills will affect the folks back home when its time to vote.”

The office will be located in the U.S. Courthouse in Dothan on 100 W. Troy St., Suite 302. There will be an open house from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Monday, and the public is invited to attend.
