Fire wrecks Troy

A Tuesday morning fire did extensive damage to a Troy business, but no one was hurt in the blaze.

At about 9:20 a.m., Steve Stubblefield, owner of Townhouse Photography on Brundidge Street, noticed flames in his building.

"I was sitting at my desk in my office and I looked to my right and the door was on fire," Stubblefield said.

Troy Fire Chief Ray Rhodes said units arrived on the scene and extinguished the fire.

It appears the fire started around an electrical fan, but investigators are not yet sure of the cause, Rhodes said. The fan was part of a ventilation system in a storage room.

That room, Stubblefield’s office and his photography dark room received heavy fire damage, he said. The rest of the house received moderate smoke and minor water damage.

Stubblefield is lucky the fire damage was not worse, Rhodes said. Although no monetary damage estimate was available, he said the building should be able to be repaired.

Traffic on Brundidge Street, a main thoroughfare in Troy, was detoured for more than an hour while members of the Troy Police and Fire departments cleared the scene, he said.

Rhodes thanked his firefighters for their work.

"Our unit was first on the scene, and they did an excellent job," he said.
