for Saturday stabbing

A Saturday night stabbing in Brundidge has police anticipating an arrest for second degree assault.

Around 11:30 p.m. Saturday, police were called to Shady Lane Trailer Park where they found Willie Griffin, a resident of the subdivision, suffering from stab wounds sustained in an altercation with another person. Griffin was admitted to Edge Regional Medical Center in Troy but is now out of the hospital. The wounds were not life-threatening, according to the Brundidge Police Department.

The call was the second Brundidge police responded to in the same day, said Chief of Police Moses Davenport.

"Earlier in the day, we got a call from an individual on a pay phone who said there was a disturbance out there," Davenport said. "When officers arrived, they found that there was nothing going on and no one they talked with knew anything of the incident."

But after the stabbing, police located an individual who said his call earlier in the day was based on a fight between the victim and the suspect.

"Apparently this incident started around lunch time," Davenport said. "It was something that developed further that evening."

Davenport was waiting for a warrant to make an arrest Tuesday afternoon for the suspect in question. Davenport anticipates that he will be charged with second degree assault, a felony offense.

According to Davenport, the victim gave police a state Tuesday identifying his attacker.

"We feel that we know who did this and we plan on arresting the individual as soon as the warrant is issued," Davenport said. "It is unfortunate that this happened, but we are confident that we will be able to arrest and charge the guilty person."
