seventh to beat Padres 6-5

The Regions Bank Mets did just what they had to do to get the win Friday as they edged the Careerman’s Club Padres 6-5 in Dixie Boys action.

The Mets went into the top of the seventh and final inning down 5-3 after the Padres scored two in the first, one in the third and two more in the fifth inning to take lead. Then, Jake Kitchens laid down the bunt in a squeeze play in the seventh for the Mets to give them the lead and the win.

Overall it was an outstanding performance by both teams who rallied behind their pitchers to play great defense and take advantage of timely hits. Lakory Daniels pitched the entire seven innings for the Padres striking out 13 while Blake Phelps also struck out 13 on the mound for the Mets in getting the win.

Kyle Golden went 2-for-2 for the Mets including an RBI single in the seventh, Kitchens pulled off two squeeze bunt attempts, Morgan Sanders had a couple of hits and Phelps and Herbert Ward both had hits.

Daniels had a good day at the plate going 2-for-3 in the loss for the Padres while Layton Sanders, Marteise Carlisle and D.J. Cannon all had hits.

DIXIE YOUTH

Cardinals 6, White Sox 1

In a battle of unbeatens, the Wallace Pump and Supply Cardinals were able to break open a 1-1 tie in the final two innings scoring three in the fourth and two in the fifth to oust the Rogers Company Inc. White Sox 6-1 last Tuesday.

Both teams were held to only three hits, but the Cards took advantage of a bases loaded situation in the fourth as Jim Wallace hit a single to score two and plated another on a passed ball. They then added some insurance with a Percy Lee single that scored Barry Rogers and Jeffrey Davis in the fifth.

Rogers was the only other Cardinal with a hit as he had a double in a 1-for-2 showing at the plate. Judson Ricks, Marquesz Toney and Brandon Green were the only White Sox batters wit hits. Wallace and Chad Jordan combined to pitch the five innings with both striking out five and not walking any Sox batters.

Cardinals 11, Braves 1

The Cardinals remained undefeated on the season with a 11-1 route of the KFC Braves on Friday.

The Cards scored six big runs in the third inning and four in the fourth to end the game early by the 10-run rule as the Braves were only able to get one run off Cardinal pitchers. Wallace and Jordan again combined for the four innings of work allowing only one hit on the day by Andrew Law of the Braves.

On the other side, the Cardinals pounded out 13 hits with a grand slam by Jerad Loftin in the third on a 2-for-2 day. Chris Ward had another perfect day at the plate going 3-for-3 with 3 RBI’s while both Zack Ethridge and Jordan both had two hits. Wallace, Andrew Powell, Davis and Lee also had a hit apiece for the Cards.

Pirates 5, Orioles 4

Down 4-2 going into the fourth inning, the B & W Electric Pirates were able to rally and overcome the Murphree Bridge Corp. Orioles 5-4 Saturday in Dixie Youth action.

The Pirates put up one run in the fourth and the tying and go-ahead run in the fifth to defeat the Orioles as Chris Davis came to the mound in relief in the fourth to hold the Orioles scoreless the final three innings.

Bradley pitched the first three inning allowing only two hits and striking out eight batters while Davis allowed no hits and struck out four. Justin Cope pitched all six innings for the O’s striking out 10, but allowing 11 Pirates’ hits.

The Pirates were led by Hawkins Drinkard and Tanner Hensley who both went 2-for-3 on the day with Drinkard notching a double while John Gillis went 2-for-2 with a single and a triple. Josh Dykes had a double and Davis, Levi Davidson and James Jackson all had singles. Sam Campbell had two singles for the Orioles.

DIXIE MINOR

Athletics 3, Dodgers 2

The Sanbuck Insurance Athletics took a 3-2 win over the Ross Landscaping Dodgers Thursday in Dixie Minor action.

The A’s allowed the Dodgers to get a run in the first and second inning before scoring all their runs in the third and holding the game scoreless the rest of the way.

Rouse came in to close out the Dodgers for the A’s in the fifth inning while he, Faulkner, Sneed and Thomas all had hits. Golden led the way for the A’s with two hits on the day. William Teal and Alex Adams had the only two hits for the Dodgers.

Dodgers 10, Angels 2

The Dodgers bounced back from their one-point loss Thursday to post an impressive 10-2 win over the Printing Press Angels Saturday.

With three runs in the first ad five in the second, the Dodgers held the Angels to only one run in both the first and sixth inning and got a complete game out of William Teal on the mound. Teal faced 22 batters, struck out seven and allowed only two hits with no walks on the day.

Teal also led the way at the plate with a 2-for-3 showing while Adams and Zack Herring also had hits. Derick Daniels and Corey Henderson had the only two hits for the Angels.
