Jake Reeves earned his right to play with the best last week and he’ll get that chance at the 2000 U.S. Open in Pebble Beach, California.

The Troy native was among the numerous qualifiers from across the country and will participate with the best golfers in the world in the 100th playing of the annual event.

Reeves came in second at the sectional qualifier for the Tournament at Settindown Creek, in Atlanta, Georgia.

As one of only five qualifiers in the Atlanta event, Reeves scored a 143 over two rounds and was only two strokes behind fellow-qualifier Javier Sanchez who shot a 141 to take the first place spot. Reeves shot a 74 the first day, but came back to shoot the lowest score of all the top-five qualifiers with a 69 in the second round.

Reeves nabbed a mid-to-late start on the opening day of the U.S. Open, as he and pairings partners Darrell Kestner and Joe Daley will tee off at 11:30 a.m. (PST) Thursday, then, turn around Friday and take a 7 a.m. start.
