Garrett pitches nine innings in Marlins win

With a nice performance on the mound and some timely offense, the League Champion Marlins ousted the Midland City Diamond Backs 14-2 in Troy Amateur Baseball League action Sunday.

The game was never really close as the Marlins jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning and from there it was simply routine. Garrett pitched all nine innings to get the complete game win holding the Diamond Back bats to only five hits and two runs.

The Marlin offense went on to tack on plenty of insurance runs for Garrett with three in the third, one in the fourth and six runs in the final four innings.

Jacob Forrest was only a home run away from the cycle with a single, double and a triple to lead the way at the plate for the Marlins while Dax Pugh finished with a pair of hits. Jerrich Lewis, Brent Neuman, Mickey Little and Fred Holland all had hits as well.

For the Diamond Backs, Nathan Bright, Allen Volf, Clay Bright , Jeff Weed and Donald Erwin all had singles.

Braves 6, Orioles 2

In Sunday’s second game, the Braves scored one run in their final six at bats to take care of the Orioles 6-2 with J. P. Cochran taking the win for the Braves.

The birds took a 2-0 lead after the second inning and West Ham and Shaun Mobley did their best on the mound to kept things tight. The Braves got a double and a single out of Thomas Shea, but only got three other hits from Justin Hendrix, Steve Whitaker and Jake Kirkland.

For the Orioles, Brandon Davis, Jason Pruitt and Chris Smith all had doubles while Chris Stroud and West Ham each had singles.

Next up for the Troy Amateur Baseball League will be will be Thursday’s matchup between the Braves and the Diamond Backs which will be held at CHHS at 7 p.m.
