Jason Reeves has learned quite a bit during his first term as a Troy City Council member and wants to use that knowledge for a second term.

The District 3 representative on the council began his first term as a 24-year-old novice. Now that the Troy native has some experience under his belt, he’s ready to serve another four years.

A former Troy State University Student Government Association president, Reeves enjoys serving and has qualified to run in the Aug. 22 election.

"I enjoy public service," Reeves said. "It’s difficult at times, but I enjoy it."

He also enjoys helping people through such things as serving on the Troy Seniors Foundation that has created the haven of activity for senior citizens, known as the Colley Senior Complex.

Having worked on behalf of Troy’s senior citizens, Reeves wants to help those younger.

"We’ve got to look at adult recreation and finding ways to enhance Troy," Reeves said.

"We’ve got to come up with reasons for people to come here, other than driving through on the way to the beach."

Most important on Reeves list of things to do, is making sure Troy continues to grow.

"I want to see the community remain viable as I get older and my children grow up and the only way to do that is to be involved," Reeves said.

One of his pet projects has been expanding the post office and creating possibly a satellite location.

In other words, he wants to finish some of the things, the current mayor and council have started.

"It’s a real honor for me to serve," Reeves said of public service. "I want to be here for a long, long time."

Reeves and his wife, Elly, are expecting their first child in October. He is a member and deacon at First Presbyterian Church and is employed by Wiley Sanders Truck Lines.
