Troy Torpedoes compete at Alabama State Games

The Troy Torpedoes swim team brought four swimmers to compete at the Alabama State Games this past weekend and all four had success.

The Torpedoes swimmers that competed at the Alabama State Games were Lillian Thompson (15-18 year old girls division), Jax Horn (9-10 boys division), Katherine Rainey (9-10 girls division) and Savannah Rainey (8 and under girls division).

“I’m extremely proud of all four of our swimmers,” Torpedoes Coach Cassidy Smartt said. “Especially Jax and Katherine, from August until now, they have shown so much improvement, as well as determination and wanting to pursue further in swimming.”

Horn took fourth place overall in his age group in the 100-meter individual medley. He also took the bronze medal in the 50-meter freestyle and 100-meter freestyle. Katherine Rainey took sixth place in the 50-meter, bronze in the 100-meter intermediate medley, silver in the 50-meter freestyle and gold in the 100-meter freestyle.

Savannah Rainey finished 11th, eighth and fourth place in her competitions, while Thompson took the bronze in the 50-meter breaststroke.

The Troy Torpedoes are the Troy Recreation Department’s year-round swim team, which competes every month throughout the year.
