The word around Troy is that, for kids, the summer “Adventure Begins at Your Library.”

Kate Deal, Children’s Librarian at the Troy Public Library, said the summer reading program is open to youngsters, four to 11 years old.  All youngsters who enjoy reading, learning and making new friends are invited to begin their summer adventure at the Troy Public Library, Deal said.

The summer adventure for four- and five-year-olds will begin on Monday, June 10 (2 until 3 p.m.) at the Troy Public Library with “Happy Campers who will enjoy stories, s’mores and games.

On June 17, kids will have an opportunity for Outdoor Adventures that include arts and crafts along with a surprise sweet treat to be enjoyed in the reading garden.

On June 24, Summer Reading kids will go on a Bear Hunt and they’re going to catch a big one. Everyone will be invited to come along on a scavenger hunt for hidden bears.

On July 8, there will be a Blast Off to a fun day of outer space themed arts and crafts.

The 2024 Summer Reading Programs for 6-11-year-old adventurers will be Tuesdays from 2 to 3 p.m. beginning June 11 with Water Day from 11 a.m. until noon. The dress code will include swimsuits, sunscreen and a towel. This outdoor program includes a giant water slide, an inflatable obstacle course and more. Don’t miss the kickoff to summer vacation.

June 18 will be a time for Animal Tales, which is back by popular demand.  Animal Tales incudes an up-close look at live wildlife.  Animal Tales is an opportunity for kids to learn how some animals work as a team to accomplish various tasks.

On June 25, imaginations will be put to the test. Grab some friends and see what they can build with Legos. May the best team win!

July 9 has been designated to Artful Adventures. Kids are invited to an art party which is an amazing opportunity that will take creativity to the next level and each “artist” will create something special.

To encourage reading as a year-round activity, readers are challenged to earn a place as a Troy Public Top Reader.

Ages four-five and 6-11 are being challenged to earn a place as a Troy Public Library Top Reader

The reading logs for those who accept the “challenge” should include the book title, author and number of pages in the book.

For four-five year olds, any book that is read to them or that they read on their own will count for their log.

For 6-11 year olds books must be reading-level appropriate. Top readers ages 4-11 will be invited to a special celebration in July.
