Have you heard? There has been an Art Explosion at the Johnson Center for the Arts in downtown Troy. And, have you heard, there are more Art Explosions on the radar.

“We’ve had an incredible response for our Summer Art Explosion Summer camps at the JCA, but space remains,” said Andrea Pack, JCA director. “So, now is the time for parents to register their youngsters.”

The JCA has planned Art Explosion sessions for the whole month of June,” “Pack said. “We are also now opening up second-chance opportunities for anyone who would like to repeat the class, which is the same lesson plan all four weeks. The Art Explosion is scheduled for four weeks with weeks one, three and four open.

A morning session based on theater arts and an afternoon session based on visual arts are all set by the theme of the story “The Cool Bean” by Jory John and Pete Oswald.

Pack said what is most often learned by “The Cool Bean” is that sometimes the coolest thing is a kind gesture to those on the “outside.’”

“We want all of our participants to leave a little more confident, a little more artistic, and a lot cooler,” Pack said. “Our instructors are experienced in arts education and with children and are pretty cool too, looking for ways to include even those who are hesitant to participate.”

The cost is $40 per session. Scholarships are available. Inquire at the JCA.

“We want every child, who wants it, to have this opportunity so, funding is provided by the Alabama State Council on the Arts and the Corley Chapman Foundation for the purpose of bringing more arts experiences and education into our communities,” Pack said.

For more information call the JCA at 670-2287 or visit the Johnson Center between the hours 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
