Birmingham Stallions win 13th straight game

The Birmingham Stallions (8-0) remain undefeated in the 2024 season after knocking off the Houston Roughnecks by a score of 35-28 this past weekend, stretching their winning streak to 13 straight games dating back to 2023.
The game came down to the final seconds as Houston drove into Birmingham territory with just 10 seconds remaining, Birmingham clinging to the 35-28 lead. As Houston quarterback Reid Sinnett scrambled to try and find an open man, Birmingham linebacker DeMarquis Gates corralled him and dropped him to the Protective Stadium turf with a sack as time expired to seal the Stallion win.
The Stallions came into the game with a number of starters out but still managed to come away with another win. Birmingham put up 322 yards of offense, while Houston racked up 311 yards. Both defenses also forced three turnovers each.
The UFL’s MVP frontrunner Adrian Martinez completed 19-of-31 passes for 173 yards, three touchdowns and one interception along with rushing for 44 yards and two more touchdowns on six carries. Martinez ranks third in passing in the conference and first in rushing, while his 16 total touchdowns ranks first in the UFL.
Against Houston, Deon Cain caught four passes for 29 yards and one touchdown. Martinez completed passes to 10 different receivers. Amari Rodgers and Victor Benjamin both caught touchdown passes. Ricky Person Jr. rushed for 63 yards on 15 carries.
Damon Lloyd, Kyahva Tezino and DeMarquis Gates each earned eight tackles. Gates also earned the game-sealing sack. AJ Thomas recorded an interception for the second consecutive week and both Larry Rountree and Willie Yarbary earned fumble recoveries for the Stallion defense.
Birmingham is on the road this week at the San Antonio Brahmas in a game that will air on ABC at 2 p.m. on May 25.
