The Troy Trojans (31-14, 14-7) baseball team capped off a big weekend with a three-game sweep of the No. 13-ranked Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (27-17, 11-10) on the road.

The Trojans didn’t just sweep the 13th ranked team in the country; it was a complete domination from Troy. The Trojans outscored Coastal Carolina 34-13 in the three contests.

Game one, however, was a slugfest between the two sides with Troy coming out on top 8-6. The two sides went into the seventh inning with Coastal leading 4-1 but Troy exploded to score five runs in the inning and never looked back.

Kyle Mock led Troy at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Brooks Bryan went 2-for-4 with a home run, one RBI and two runs. Tremayne Cobb Jr. also went 2-for-4 with a homer, a double, four RBIs and two runs. Ben Arnett also hit a home run in the win.

Clete Hartzog earned the Troy win on the mound, striking out two batters and giving up one hit and no runs in three and 1/3 innings pitched. Garrett Gainous also pitched two and 2/3 innings and fanned three batters along with giving up four hits and four earned runs.

In game two, Troy secured the series win with a resounding 11-4 victory. Troy scored nine runs in the first three innings as Coastal was never able to get on track offensively.

Aidan Gilroy had a big day on offense, going 3-for-5 with a double, a home run, two RBIs and two runs, while Arnett went 3-for-5 with a homer, an RBI and two runs. Bryan also hit his second homer of the series.

Luke Lyon tallied his sixth win on the mound, striking out a pair of batters and giving up seven hits and two earned runs in five innings of work. Jay Dill pitched two and 2/3 innings and gave up three hits and one earned run with a strikeout.

Just getting a series win wasn’t enough for Troy, however, as the Trojans throttled Coastal by a score of 15-3 in game three. Troy led 6-1 going into the sixth inning and put the series away with a nine-run sixth inning.

Arnett led Troy at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two runs. Will Butcher and Kole Myers each hit a homer, while Mock earned a double. Grayson Stewart got the win on the mound, striking out four and giving up five hits and two earned runs in six innings pitched.

“Just a tremendous day. Tremendous weekend in totality,” Troy Coach Skylar Meade said. “The guys came out with constant attacks, scoring in four of the seven innings played today. Add in Stewart’s competitiveness and his execution with pitches was really good. The defense was solid, and they made great reads throughout. We finished it off right. All parties offensively had a great day. If you didn’t get the hit, you took the walk or ran the bases well. It’ll be a fun bus ride back. The guys most certainly deserved it. We still got more work to do, so we’ll reset Monday and get ready for Alabama State on Tuesday.”

The series win puts Troy securely in second place of the Sun Belt only behind Louisiana. Troy and Louisiana do battle this weekend for a Sun Belt Conference Series in Troy May 3-5.
