The Troy Tourism Department and the Colley Senior Complex hosted a reception Wednesday for Mary Page, longtime art teacher at the complex.

However, the reception/luncheon was actually more specific.

Catherine Jordan, director of the senior complex, said there are many reasons to recognize Mary Page, but, on Wednesday, the recognition was for her artwork related to the upcoming TroyFest arts and crafts show on Saturday and Sunday in downtown Troy.

Rob Drinkard, TroyFest committee chairman, said each TroyFest has a new and unique design for its arts and crafts festival T-shirts.

In years past, students at Troy Elementary School have been invited to submit a design. Recently, the designs have been created by members of the community. This year, Page was invited to design the 2024 TroyFest T-shirt. And, in Mary Page fashion. She accepted appreciatively.

“For me, it was an honor to be asked to do a design for the TroyFest T-shirt,” Page said. ‘’I have worked at the Colley Senior Complex for 24 years and I love each and every one. I thank Rob Drinkard and the committee for asking me.”

However, when Page saw the picture of TroyFest that was suggested for the T-shirt, she wasn’t sure about being able to do it.
“There were so many tiny things and thin lines,” she said. “But, I wanted to do it and I wanted it to be good.”

After, the reception, there could have been no doubt and Page’s painting was “good.”
“Everyone loved the T-shirt design and everyone loves Mary Page,” Jordan said. “She is and has been a part of the Colley Complex and everyone loves her and she loves everyone and is always willing to help others.

Page’s daughter, Cheryl Page Yawn, said her mom was excited to have the opportunity to do the design for the 2024 TroyFest T-shirt.

“My mom loves the Lord and she loves everybody,” Yawn said. “She is happiest when she is helping others and she is loved. And I love her with all my heart.’
