Softball teams gear up for Area Tournaments

The high school softball season is nearing the end and the schools in The Messenger’s coverage area are getting set for Area Tournaments next week. All Area Softball Tournaments are double elimination tournaments.

The Class 2A No. 3-ranked Zion Chapel Lady Rebels will play host to the 2A, Area 4 Tournament on April 29. Goshen plays Highland Home in the opening round at 9 a.m. and then Luverne and Pike Liberal Arts play at 11:15 a.m. Zion Chapel plays the winner of Goshen vs. Highland Home at 1:30 p.m.

The loser of Goshen vs. Highland Home plays the loser of Pike Lib vs. Luverne at 3:34 p.m. in an elimination game. More elimination games take place on April 30 until a tournament champion and runner-up are crowned.

The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans will head into the Class 5A, Area 4 Tournament in Holtville on April 29. Charles Henderson plays Brewbaker Tech in the first round of the double elimination tournament on April 29 at 1 p.m. Holtville and Greenville will play at 11 a.m. The losers of both of those games will play at 5 p.m. in an elimination game. The winners of the first round games will play at 3 p.m. The tournament continues with elimination games on April 30.

The Ariton Lady Purple Cats will head to Skipperville to play in the 2A, Area 3 Tournament on April 29. Ariton plays Abbeville in the first round at 2 p.m. on April 29. The winner plays GW Long at 4 p.m. in the second round. The loser of the first round game will play the loser of the second round game in an elimination matchup at 6 p.m. Games continue on April 30 at 5 p.m.

The Pike County Lady Bulldogs will head to Opp for the Class 3A, Area 3 Tournament on April 26. Pike County plays Straughn in the opening round at 11 a.m. New Brockton and Opp will play in the other first round game at 9 a.m. The losers of those two games will play in an elimination game at 3 p.m., while the winners will play at 1 p.m. Another elimination game will take place at 5 p.m.

Both tournament champion and runner-up advances to the AHSAA State Regional Softball Tournament in May.
