Pike Lib Baseball claims Area Crown

The Pike Liberal Arts Patriots (21-5) captured the Class 2A, Area 5 Championship with an 11-1 win over the Luverne Tigers on Friday.

John Lott led PLAS on offense, going 4-for-5 with a triple and an RBI, while Houston Gunter went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs. Kade Brookins went 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and a run. Luke Barron also went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Barron earned the win on the mound, striking out eight batters and giving up three hits and one earned run in six innings pitched.

Pike Lib followed that up with an appearance in the GW Long Round Robin Tournament on Saturday, splitting its weekend games. The Patriots started things off with a 6-3 win over 7A Enterprise.

Barron went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs and a run, while Lott went 2-for-3 with a double. Cole Garrott earned the win on the mound, striking out four batters and giving up five hits and one earned run. Braden Shirley earned the save, striking out a pair of batters and giving up one hit and no runs in three innings pitched.

Pike Lib wrapped up the weekend with a 4-3 loss to host GW Long. PLAS led 3-1 going into the sixth inning when the Rebels exploded to score three runs.

For Pike, Barron went 2-for-4 with a run, while Kade Brookins hit a double. Will Rice struck out four batters and gave up one hit and one earned run in three and 2/3 innings pitched. Dawson Bradford struck out three and gave up five hits and three earned runs in two and 1/3 innings pitched.
