Troy Softball loses midweek clash with Georgia Tech

The Troy Trojans softball team hit the road on Wednesday and dropped a matchup with the ACC’s Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets by a score of 14-9.
Early, the game was a home run competition. Georgia Tech blasted a pair of homers in the first inning but Troy’s Libby Baker, Jade Sinness and Cassidy Boltz answered with home runs in the second and third innings. Georgia Tech again hit a homer in the fifth and Troy’s Sarah Beth Brake hit one in the sixth inning.
Troy led 8-6 going into the fifth inning but the Jackets scored eight runs in the fifth and sixth inning. The Trojans were only able to muster one more run for the remainder of the game.
Boltz went 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run, three RBIs and two runs, while Sinness went 2-for-4 with a homer, four RBIs and one run. Baker took the loss in the circle, striking out two batters and giving up five hits and four earned runs in three and 2/3 innings pitched. Haley Pittman also struck out four and gave up four hits and four earned runs in one and 1/3 innings.
Georgia Tech was led at the plate by Gracie Hillman, who went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs. Mallorie Black, Madison Dobbins and Jayden Gailey all hit home runs, as well.
The Trojans will look to bounce back as Sun Belt Conference play begins again with a road series against Texas State April 5-7.
