Area Baseball: Pike Lib shuts out 5A Carroll

The Pike Liberal Arts Patriots (18-4) returned to the baseball diamond on Tuesday and shutout Class 5A’s Carroll Eagles by a score of 6-0.

A total of four Pike pitchers toed the rubber in the win and as a pitching staff, PLAS gave up just two hits and one walk all game. Senior Will Rice earned the win on the mound, striking out three batters and giving up one hit and no runs in two innings. Dawson Bradford struck out one and gave up no hits or runs in two innings, while Luke Barron struck out two batters and gave up one hit and no runs in two innings. Kade Brookins struck out one batter and gave up no hits or runs in one inning pitched.

John Lott went 2-for-4 with a double at the plate, while Luke Barron went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Bradford went 2-for-2 with a run.

The Charles Henderson Trojans picked up an 8-3 win over the Zion Chapel Rebels on Tuesday by a score of 8-3. Chase Vaznaian went 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs. Bradley Prestwood struck out four batters and gave up no hits or earned runs in five innings pitched. Trenton Bryan struck out four and gave up two hits and two earned runs in two innings pitched.

For Zion Chapel, John Foster Hamm went 1-for-2 with a run. Hamm also struck out a pair of batters and gave up no hits or runs in two and 1/3 innings pitched.

The Goshen Eagles dropped a game on Tuesday to Highland Home by a score of 19-7. Tristen Drinkard went 2-for-4 at the plate with two doubles, two RBIs and a run. Tyler McLendon went 2-for-4 with three runs and Cade Edwards went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run.

McLendon struck out four batters and gave up five hits and three earned runs in one and 2/3 innings pitched.

The Pike County Bulldogs throttled Emmanuel Christian by a score of 19-4 on Thursday. Ben Patterson went 2-for-2 at the plate with two RBIs and two runs, while Omari Barrow hit a home run and drove in five runs with four runs of his own. Mark Griffin pitched two and 1/3 innings and fanned six batters, while giving up two hits and two earned runs in two and 1/3 innings pitched. Mike Gabel struck out five and gave up no hits or runs in one and 2/3 innings on the mound.

On Monday, the Ariton Purple Cats beat the Class 5A Headland Rams by a score of 7-3. Lawson Leger went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, two RBIs and three runs. Hughes Hammock struck out six batters and gave up no hits or runs in six and 2/3 innings pitched.
