Troy bests Southern Miss in Sun Belt Softball series

After winning game one in a Sun Belt Conference softball series last week, the Troy Trojans split the next two games over the weekend.

Troy secured the series win with a resounding 10-4 win over Southern Miss on March 29. Jade Sinness went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, two RBIs and two runs, while D’Aun Riggs went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run. Cassidy Boltz also went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs.

Alyssa Faircloth got the win in the circle, striking out four batters and giving up three hits and no runs in four innings pitched. Haley Pittman also struck out six and gave up five hits and four earned runs in three innings.

Southern Miss avoided the sweep on March 30 by taking game three by a score of 10-1. Troy struggled at the plate as a team but Libby Baker went 2-for-2 with a home run, one RBI and one run. Baker took the loss in the circle, striking out three and giving up six hits and three earned runs in two innings pitched.

Troy is on the road on April 3 to face the ACC’s Georgia Tech before traveling to Texas State for another Sun Belt series April 5-7.
