Fab 4 Bound: Trojans topple ULM in WNIT Great 8

The Troy Trojans are headed to the WNIT Fab 4 after knocking off the ULM Warhawks by a score of 89-75 on Monday night.

Troy controlled the majority of the game and led by as many as 15 points on multiple occasions. The Trojans held on to a 42-32 lead at halftime but started to pull away in the third quarter. Led by Ja’Mia Hollings’ 10 points in the third quarter, Troy led by as many as 16 points before ULM rallied to cut the lead to 10 heading into the fourth quarter.

Troy again swelled the lead to 15 points in the fourth quarter but ULM battled back to come to within six points with two minutes remaining only for the Trojans to pull away again and seal the win with some key free throw shooting late.

Troy shot 43 percent from the field, while holding ULM to just 36 percent shooting. The Trojans also dominated the boards, outrebounding ULM 59-37.

“What a night at Trojan Arena. We’ve made history and we made history again. These seniors won’t let us go out any other way than all we’ve got,” Troy Coach Chanda Rigby said. “They’re word for the game was ‘everything’ and they gave everything. ULM was a great team tonight and they had very determined seniors, as well; high-level players. The team just did what they had to do to get those stops at the end to meet and exceed their determination.”

Troy’s double-double machine, Hollings, earned her sixth straight double-double with 22 points, 16 rebounds and two blocks, while Makayia Hallmon chipped in with 19 points. Both Nia Daniel and Tai’Sheka Porchia scored 14 points each, while Porchia also grabbed nine rebounds. Zay Dyer corralled 14 rebounds, while Shaulana Wagner dished eight assists in the win.

ULM was led by Daisha Bradford with 31 points, six rebounds and four assists, while Lauren Gross earned 16 points.

Troy will host Minnesota in the Fab 4 on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
