‘Miles For Smiles’ 5k: A Success out of the blocks

The 2024 “Miles for Smiles 5K Fun/Run Walk “on Sunday at the Troy Recreation Center was nothing short of a great success.

Melissa Ingram, leader of the local Women in Blue Awareness Campaign, said more than 50 runners/walkers came out in support of the Cancer Wellness Foundation, which is dedicated to bringing greater awareness to colon cancer and to all cancers as well.

Ingram said the services the Foundation provides to Pike County are making a difference in the lives of many.

The Pike County numbers for those served from January1, 2024, through March 15. 2024 include: Foundation, served 22 patients. The services provided include co-pay assistance, $5,000; medication assistance, $251,406 and transportation assistance, $2,472.80. The total assistance so far in 2024 is $258,878. 80.

So, Ingram said, the Foundation is providing services to individuals in Pike County that are greatly needed.

The Miles for Smiles contributed to the Foundation with is 5K Walk/Run.

Ingram congratulated the winners of the Miles for Smiles 5K Run/Walk, Wesley Woodard, first place; Jennifer Graf, second place; and Preston Garner, third place.

Ingram congratulated the winners and all those who came out in support of the efforts to bring greater awareness to colon cancer.

Ingram lost her dad, Lawrence Adams, to colon cancer. She now better understands what it’s like to know that screening is one of the most preventable ways to detect and survive colon cancer.

“Women in Blue” is an organization that is dedicated to bringing greater awareness to cancer prevention. Support of “Women in Blue” is greatly appreciated.
