On Monday, Charles Henderson, Ariton, Zion Chapel and Pike Liberal Arts all traveled to Baldwin County for the Gulf Coast Classic Baseball Tournament.

The Charles Henderson Trojans picked up a 13-7 win over the Asheville Bulldogs in the first day of the Gulf Coast Classic.

Wilson Jones led CHHS at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and a run. Owen Pugh, Chase Vaznaian, Clay Johnson, Parker Adams and Cooper Johnson each had two hits on the day. Cooper Johnson also scored two runs.

Vaznaian pitched two and 1/3 innings and struck out three batters, while giving up three hits and no runs. Trenton Bryan pitched two and 1/3 innings and fanned four batters, while giving up two hits and one earned run.

The Class 2A No. 1-ranked Ariton Purple Cats also throttled Sweet Water in day one of the Gulf Coast Classic. Lawson Leger went 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run, a double, four RBIs and two runs, while Myles Tyler went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs. Caden Collier went 2-for-4 with a double and three runs. Dalton Murphy also went 3-for-5 with an RBI.

Murphy pitched three innings and mowed down six batters, while giving up three hits and two earned runs. Addison Senn also gave up two hits and one earned run in two innings on the mound.

The 2A No. 2-ranked Pike Liberal Arts Patriots dropped their game one at the Gulf Coast Classic to the Boaz Pirates by a score of 10-1. Peyton Elliot, Pruitt Vaughan, Luke Barron, Cole Garrott and John Lott each earned one hit, while Lott scored the lone Patriot run. Kade Brookins struck out five batters and gave up seven hits and eight earned runs in four innings pitched. Elliot also struck out two batters and gave up two hits and one earned run in two innings on the mound.

The Zion Chapel Rebels outscored Southeastern in a wild 16-15 shootout in game one of the Gulf Coast Classic. The Rebels trailed 15-14 going into the bottom of the seventh inning but Macon Allen hit an RBI single that drove Wes Braisted in for the tying run. John Foster Hamm then scored the walk-off run on an error.

Braisted went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs, while Allen went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs. Brodie Stinson and Hamm both scored three runs. Brady Flowers struck out four batters and gave up six hits and five earned runs in four innings pitched.

The Rebels followed that up with a 7-2 loss to Foley later in the day. Braisted and Jackson Adcock scored one run each in the loss. Hamm struck out six batters and gave up four hits and three earned runs in five innings toeing the rubber.

In other area action, the Pike County Bulldogs split a doubleheader with Highland Home on Monday. Pike County lost game one by a score of 11-4. Keldon Singleton went 2-for-2 with an RBI in the loss. Britt Albrittion struck out two batters and gave up seven hits and four earned runs in four innings pitched.

Pike County rebounded to dominate game two by a score of 12-2. Omari Barrow scored three runs in the win, while Ben Patterson and Singleton scored two runs each. Barrow also pitched all six innings and mowed down 15 batters, while giving up four hits and no earned runs.

The Goshen Eagles dropped a game with Class 3A New Brockton on Monday by a score of 13-1. Tyler McLendon earned the lone hit and lone run of the day for Goshen. Gavin Davis gave up three hits and three earned runs in two innings pitched. Cody Boyette struck out three batters in one and 1/3 innings pitched.
