Ariton bests Pike Lib in Top 10 showdown

On Saturday, the Class 2A No. 1-ranked Ariton Purple Cats (12-4) picked up a 6-4 win over the No. 2-ranked Pike Liberal Arts Patriots (15-2) in a matchup between two of the top teams in 2A.

The two sides went into extra innings tied 4-4 as neither team could pick up the win in regulation. In the top of the ninth inning, Ariton’s Lawson Leger hit an RBI single into center field that drove brothers Addison and Ian Senn home for the go-ahead runs to put the Cats up 6-4. In the bottom of the ninth, Ariton needed just three batters to earn the three outs to secure its second win over Pike Lib this season.

Addison Senn led Ariton at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs, while Caden Collier went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run. Easton Kilpatrick got the win on the mound, striking out one batter and giving up two hits and no runs in two and 2/3 innings pitched.

Luke Barron led Pike at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. John Lott also scored two runs, while Cole Garrott and Peyton Elliot scored one run each.

Dawson Bradford took the loss on the mound, striking out three batters and giving up three hits and two earned runs in seven and 1/3 innings pitched.
