Area Baseball: Pike Lib, Ariton earn dominant wins

The Class 2A No. 2-ranked Pike Liberal Arts Patriots (15-1) picked up another Area 5 win on Thursday, topping Highland Home by a score of 11-0.
John Lott went 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs and a run, while Cole Garrott and Kade Brookins hit doubles and had two RBIs each. Dawson Bradford and Weston Garrett scored two runs each. Garrott pitched five innings and struck out six batters, while giving up one hit and no runs in the shutout.
The 2A No. 1-ranked Ariton Purple Cats (11-4) also picked up a 16-1 win over WS Neal on Thursday. Lawson Leger led Ariton at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three doubles, four RBIs and two runs, while Myles Tyler went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs. Jessie Pelham went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs. Dalton Murphy went 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and a run. Leger pitched three innings and struck out three batters, while giving up three hits and one earned run. Pelham also struck out two batters and gave up no hits or runs in two innings on the mound.
The Zion Chapel Rebels (6-8) lost 5-3 in a 2A, Area 5 matchup with GW Long on Thursday. Wes Braistead went 2-for-3 at the plate for ZCHS with a double, one RBI and one run. Austin Jordan pitched six innings and struck out two batters along with giving up three hits and five earned runs.
The Goshen Eagles (1-8) lost 20-2 on Thursday in a 2A, Area 5 game. Tyler McLendon and Tristan Drinkard scored one run each. McLendon struck out one batter and gave up five hits and eight earned runs in two innings pitched.
