Troy Softball wins first Sun Belt Conference series

The Troy Trojans (22-9, 2-1) opened up the 2024 Sun Belt Conference Softball schedule this weekend, defeating Coastal Carolina (18-10, 1-2) in a three-game series.

The weekend jumped off to a rocky start with 7-4 loss to Coastal Carolina on March 15. Anslee Finch led Troy at the plate, going 2-for-2 with two home runs, two RBIs and two runs, while D’Aun Riggs went 2-for-4 with a run in the loss. Libby Baker took the loss in the circle, striking out two batters and giving four hits and seven earned runs in five innings pitched.

Troy rebounded to beat Coastal – and tie the series – in a 13-12 shootout on March 16. Finch again was big at the plate, going 2-for-3, with a home run, three RBIs and a run, while Baker went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run. Taylor McKinney went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, an RBI and three runs, while Audra Thompson went 2-for-3 with a homer, four RBIs and two runs.

Baker got the win the circle, giving up two hits and one earned run in two innings pitched. A total of five pitchers entered the circle in game two fro Troy. Alyssa Faircloth, Kate Peters and Savannah Money each struck out two batters on the day.

Troy wrapped up the series with an 8-6 win on Sunday with the Trojans belting two home runs in the ninth inning from Baker and Brantley native Kayden Dunn.

Baker went 2-for-4 at the plate with a home run, two RBIs and one run, while Dunn went 2-for-3 with a homer, two RBIs and two runs. Cassidy Boltz also hit a home run in the win.

Baker got her second win of the weekend in the circle, giving up seven hits and four earned runs in four and 1/3 innings pitched. Haley Pittman earned her third save of the year, striking out four batters and giving up four hits and two earned runs in four and 2/3 innings in the circle.

Troy shifts focus now to a home showdown with the Auburn Tigers on March 19 at 6 p.m.
